December in the Yorkshire Dales feels properly magical. The mornings have a crisp bite to them now, we’re all wrapping up warm and cracking the ice on the puddles as we head out to the farm jobs. The pods are officially dressed up for Christmas with twinkly lights, trees in pride of place and that excited festive buzz is building nicely.

And winter shows a different side to the countryside. The newly planted seeds in the fields are just starting to show through now muddy boots, frosty paths, crisp air and some cracking winter sunsets. Come and experience Christmas in the Yorkshire Dales properly.

Harmby Waterfall (just minutes from us) is especially beautiful this time of year – you can get that real winter wonderland vibe when icicles hang down along the rocks.

There are loads of Christmas markets happening locally, and here’s just a little selection of the smaller ones close to us (all easy from the farm – we’re just 10 minutes from Leyburn):

• Richmond Christmas Fair & Market – Live music, kids entertainment, fairground rides, Santa’s grotto, vintage vehicles and a Santa fun run – 7th December from 10am

• Bedale Christmas Market – 29th November, 10am–3pm

• Saddle Rooms Christmas Market – 30th November, 10am–3pm
